In this episode, Carryl Pierre-Drews, Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at IAB joins Adrianne Smith, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer FleishmanHillard and founder of the Cannes Can: Diversity Collective (CC:DC) and Adwoa Ayesu, Influencer Marketing Manager to discuss the mission behind both the IAB Inclusion Institute and the CC: DC as well as the combined efforts to create and contribute to a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive industry which included providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for a young marketer to receive a week of unprecedented senior leadership exposure and on-site educational seminars at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.

Carryl Pierre-Drews is an entrepreneurial marketing executive experienced in driving transformation and innovation to stay ahead of the ever-evolving media ecosystem. Previously, Carryl held the title of Vice President of Marketing at Fullscreen, a next-gen social marketing agency, where she built and led the agency’s brand marketing, PR, digital/social channels, influencer engagements, and global industry activations featuring marketers from American Eagle, AT&T, HP, Marriott, Mars, Mattel, Visa and more. During her tenure, she launched the proprietary audience insights series “Fullscreen Confidential,” which secured a 2018 ANA Global ACE Award. Carryl also led the agency’s foray into Cannes Lions with the 2017 short film “Future Five: Most Popular Gaming Lifestyles” for the Live Stage, as well as the 2018 Entertainment Stage panel “Action!: Diversity in Filmmaking — Beyond Empowerment to Execution” for AT&T’s Hello Lab Mentorship program featuring Emmy® winner Lena Waithe. Additionally, she realigned the PR strategy and secured high-impact digital and broadcast coverage, driving a 1,000% increase in impressions in 2019. Carryl was instrumental in catalyzing key strategic decisions that drove business growth, elevated visibility, and increased shareholder value positioning Fullscreen for the AT&T acquisition in 2018 and eventual WarnerMedia integration in 2019.
Adrianne C. Smith is SVP/Senior Partner and Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at FleishmanHillard, a global PR agency developing creative and strategic communications for brand and reputation management, corporate and costumer marketing, crisis and more. Prior to joining FleishmanHillard she was named the first Global Director of Inclusion and Diversity at WPP, the largest multinational communications, advertising, public relations, technology and commerce holding company. Adrianne is also the Founder and Visionary of the Can: Diversity Collective, a non-profit organization created to provide access and exposure to young adults of color and under-represented communities to global thought leadership conferences on advertising, marketing, creativity, economics, innovation and technology. In 2017, she launched the first iteration of the Diversity Collective, the Cannes Can: Diversity Collective (CC:DC) which provides rising stars in the advertising and creative industry the opportunity to attend and participate in the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In 2019, she made history by creating the first stand-alone Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Beach in the festival’s 66 years of existence. Cannes Lions is where the best creative work in the world is judged to the highest standards.
With more than 20+ years of industry and advocacy experience, including her work as the Executive Director of the Center for Excellence in Advertising at Howard University, Adrianne has helped many individuals achieve their personal career goals and organizations achieve their strategic corporate goals. Graduates trained in her program have received numerous awards and accolades including Cannes Lion awards.
