IAB Submits Comments to the Federal Election Commission on Political Advertising Disclaimers

Self-Regulation

On November 10, IAB submitted comments in response to the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Internet Disclaimers.

In the comments, IAB highlights its commitment to a transparent digital advertising ecosystem, and urges the Commission to update its internet disclaimer requirements to account for advances in modern technology. Specifically, IAB asks the commission to use its rulemaking authority, rather than ad hoc use of Advisory Opinions, to recognize any known alternative means of displaying a disclaimer as compliant with FEC requirements.

IAB also highlights ongoing industry efforts to promote greater transparency and recommends that the FEC look toward the success of the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Trustworthy Accountability Group as examples of how government can empower the internet industry to develop and implement a successful self-regulatory model for online advertising.
