INTERNET ADVERTISING BUREAU (IAB) TO HOLD FIRST EUROPEAN MEMBERSHIP MEETING

June 1 Meeting in Amsterdam Brings Together IAB Members From Seven Countries

New York, March 13, 1999 – Underscoring the global nature of the Internet, the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) will hold its inaugural European Leadership Dinner and Conference on June 1, in Amsterdam the Netherlands. The meeting will bring together members from seven IAB countries including Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom as well as the United States. The IAB meeting is being held in Amsterdam in conjunction with @d:tech Europe which will take place from June 2 -4.

“The future dynamic growth of online advertising is global in nature. While individual countries have issues which are particular to their markets, there is an overwhelming commonality to online media which crosses all borders,” noted IAB (US) chairman Rich LeFurgy. “This first international meeting of the IAB will help us all to better understand the differences of our markets and the similarities, and will enable us to work more closely together as we continue to build and evolve online media.”

The first IAB European Meeting will be held at the Okura Hotel in Amsterdam and will start at 8:30 on the morning of June 1, with an IAB members-only meeting which will conclude at 12 Noon. Following a luncheon open to all registered attendees, the afternoon session will start at 1:30 PM with a full program of panel discussions concluding at 6:00 PM. The afternoon session is also open to all registered attendees.

“The upcoming meeting in Amsterdam will, for the first time bring together European and United States IAB members and Boards, and will provide an exciting opportunity for the exchange of ideas and information,” said Jean-Pierre Levieux, IAB France Board member and European Representative on the U.S IAB Board of Directors. “This is a key time for Online Advertising in Europe with strong industry growth, and the ability for the major players from Europe and the US to meet and discuss issues will benefit us all.”

The day’s activities will culminate with the IAB Leadership Dinner held at the Amsterdam Renaissance Hotel, Koepelkerk Center. Attendees will arrive at the dinner following a one hour sightseeing tour/cocktail reception held on IAB sponsored canal boats.

Founded in 1996, the IAB is the leading online advertising association with over 300 active members. Its activities include evaluating and recommending standards and practices, fielding research to document the effectiveness of the online medium and educating the advertising industry about the use of online advertising. Current membership includes companies that are actively engaged in the sales of Internet advertising, with associate membership including companies that support advertising, — interactive advertising agencies, measurement companies, research suppliers, technology suppliers, traffic companies and other organizations from related industries. A global organization, IAB member countries include Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and is currently developing membership countries in Asia and Latin America, as well as other countries in Europe. The IAB and the Internet Local Advertising & Commerce Association (ILAC) agreed to combine their organizations in July of 1998.
