On Friday, December 21, IAB submitted comments to the FTC in advance of their next hearing on competition and consumer protection in the 21st century. IAB’s comments request that the FTC’s approach to digital privacy consider the reasonableness of certain practices, balanced against consumer expectations and the sensitivity of data in question, in order to strike the appropriate balance between strong consumer privacy choices and continued economic development and innovation. IAB provided supplemental comments highlighting industry research papers, surveys, and reports to assist the FTC in developing its updated viewpoint on data privacy. IAB also filed joint comments with nine other trade associations on the need for data practices to be assessed holistically through a reasonableness standard.
