Alastair Mactaggart, the author of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), is pushing for a new ballot initiative that would significantly update the CCPA, if passed. Titled the “California Privacy Rights Act,” this ballot initiative would significantly update the CCPA and establish a new privacy protection agency.
During this webinar, IAB will discuss how CPRA differs from CCPA, and what that could mean for the digital advertising industry. We’ll also discuss the CCPA amendment process and other relevant privacy updates from California.
Michael Hahn is Executive Vice President & General Counsel at IAB and IAB Tech Lab. Michael has responsibility for all legal matters, including the direction of legal strategy, privacy compliance, antitrust compliance, intellectual property rights issues, and general corporate matters. Michael is also responsible for serving as an advocate for the digital advertising industry on common legal issues affecting member companies.
Michael joined IAB and IAB Tech Lab from Lowenstein Sandler LLP where he served as Vice Chair of the firm’s Antitrust Practice Group. In that role, he provided clients with strategic counsel around competition, distribution and governance issues. In the area of litigation, Michael’s matters have included multiparty class action antitrust defense representation.
Michael served previously as Co-Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Antitrust Law Committee. He also previously served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Competition Law 360 and the Advisory Board of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section’s Civil Torts & RICO Committee. Michael frequently publishes on a range of legal and policy issues.
Michael earned his B.A. in History and Political Science from Rutgers University, M.P.P. from Georgetown University and J.D. for Georgetown University Law Center.
Ms. Forsheit is Chair of the Privacy & Data Security Group. She has advised on high-profile matters involving confidential data and other sensitive information for over 20 years. She advises on the protection, processing and monetization of data, including matters related to interest-based advertising, privacy policies, mobile apps, cloud computing, smart devices, and data analytics. She has advised on hundreds of information technology deals and transactions on behalf of both service providers and enterprise purchasers, including multilayered AdTech and cloud computing agreements. She is routinely called upon to help clients respond to time-sensitive security events and has advised on hundreds of such incidents. She has worked with dozens of multinational clients on the compliance requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and is currently representing dozens more in preparing for, and addressing the policy implications of, the California Consumer Privacy Act, taking effect in January 2020. The Legal 500 praised her in the 2019 edition as “incredibly responsive” and “everything you could ask for in an outside counsel.” In January 2018, she was named by the Daily Journal as one of the top 20 Cyber attorneys in California, and was one of three finalists for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Cybersecurity Lawyer of the Year recognition in 2017. She is currently an Adjunct Professor at Loyola Law School.
Pat Joyce is a lobbyist at KP Public Affairs who provides strategic counsel on policy, regulatory consulting, and legislative advocacy for a variety of clients. He has over a decade of experience in government affairs and political campaigns in California and Washington, DC. Pat focuses on many policy areas, including entertainment, labor and employment, technology, internet privacy, and environmental health and safety issues.
Prior to joining KP, Pat was a political consultant who managed and advised campaign finance operations for a half dozen Democratic members of Congress in Washington, DC raising millions of dollars from federal PACs and individual donors during the 2012 and 2014 campaign cycles. Before that, he served as Finance Director for an Ohio Congressman during the 2010 election cycle
Shoeb Mohammed joined the California Chamber of Commerce in December 2019 as a policy advocate and leads the CalChamber Privacy Coalition and advocacy for issues including privacy and cybersecurity, technology, and telecommunications.
Shoeb is an experienced corporate litigator with an extensive background in technology related matters including intellectual property, strategic corporate planning, and complex civil litigation.
Shoeb earned a B.A. in political science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona; a J.D. from the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific; and a Certificate in Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business School Online. Shoeb is also a self taught developer and graphic artist.
Daniel A. Sepulveda is the Senior Vice President for Policy and Advocacy for MediaMath, a multinational advertising and marketing technology company. In this capacity he represents MediaMath on public policy issues in public forums, before government officials and agencies, in industry associations, and in dialogues with consumer organizations and civil society working on technology and the digital economy. He also works with teams across the company to put consumer interests first in our products and services.
Sepulveda served in the Obama Administration at the State Department as Ambassador and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy from March 2013 – January 2017. Prior to joining the State Department, Sepulveda served as a Senior Advisor to Senator John Kerry from 2009 – 2013 working on technology, telecommunications, trade, and economics. From 2004-2008 Sepulveda was a senior legislative aide to then-Senator Barack Obama on the same issues and also advised his presidential campaign.
Before joining Senator Obama’s office, Sepulveda worked for Senator Barbara Boxer, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee. Additional prior work experience includes service during the Clinton Administration at the U.S. Department of Labor and at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). Mr. Sepulveda received a Master of Public Affairs from the Lindon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin as a Woodrow Wilson Fellow in Public Policy and International Affairs and holds Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Emory University.
