IAB Statement on the Introduction of Trade Promotion Authority Legislation 1

Mike Zaneis, Executive Vice President of Public Policy at IAB, issued the following statement on the introduction of Trade Promotion Authority legislation:

“IAB applauds the inclusion of strong protections for digital trade and cross-border data flows in Trade Promotion Authority legislation. These provisions rightly recognize the importance of the digital economy as the platform on which today’s consumers and businesses depend.

Internet advertising facilitates international trade by matching the right products to the right customers anywhere in the world. No trade agreement is complete without recognizing the role of digital advertising in global commerce and protecting against protectionist barriers to the industry.

By passing TPA legislation that supports the digital economy, Congress has the opportunity to signal to our trading partners and the world that attempts to limit the flow of information and create an unfair playing field against the U.S. Internet sector will not be tolerated. We urge Congress to show their support for the Internet economy by quickly enacting TPA legislation for the 21st century digital economy.”
