IAB Announces New Chair of Public Policy Council 2

IAB is pleased to announce that Todd Thorpe, Senior Vice President of Global Government Affairs at News Corp, has been appointed as the new Chair of the IAB Public Policy Council.

In this role, Todd will support the work of IAB by serving as a voice for membership and ensuring that the Public Policy Council continues to address issues of importance to the industry and membership at large.

Comprised of nearly 300 people from 150 leading publisher and ad technology companies, the Public Policy Council leads the advocacy efforts of IAB members as they engage all levels of government on key policy issues in order to ensure continued growth of the industry.

“Todd has been an important member of the IAB Public Policy Council for years and his thoughtful contributions have been invaluable to our work on behalf of the industry. As Chairman of the Public Policy Council, I look forward to working with Todd to address the issues impacting digital advertising,” said Dave Grimaldi, Executive Vice President of Public Policy at IAB.

and competition issues for News Corp, working closely with the News Corp legal team.

He joined the company after several years of successful advocacy on their behalf while at the Bockorny Group, a bipartisan federal advocacy and consulting firm. Todd joined the lobbying firm in 2006 after serving in various positions on Capitol Hill for close to 10 years. Todd has extensive legislative experience in a wide variety of issues including technology and the internet, telecommunications, patent reform, government privacy, litigation reform, and competition policy. Todd also served as Managing Principal at the firm and led the firm’s tech practice where he lobbied for News Corp, Universal Music Group, and Recording Industry of America. He also played a critical role in all major mergers handled by the lobbying firm.

Prior to joining the Bockorny Group, Thorpe served as Chief of Staff for former Representative Chris Cannon (R-UT), then Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law. Thorpe worked for former Representative Jim Hansen (R-UT) and Senator John Ensign (R-NV). Thorpe also has experience in campaign management, running one of the nation’s top ten congressional races in 2000.

He has a BA from Utah State University, an MA from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, in Brussels, Belgium, and a JD from George Mason University School of Law. Todd and his wife, Amanda, reside on Capitol Hill with their three children.
