IAB Recommends Nomination of Under Secretary to Serve as Privacy Shield Ombudsperson

IAB Recommends Nomination of Under Secretary to Serve as Privacy Shield Ombudsperson

The Interactive Advertising Bureau and other leading trade associations submitted a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo highlighting the important role of the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment and urging the swift appointment of a strong candidate for the position. In addition to serving as a key proponent of trade and investment on behalf of U.S. industry, the Under Secretary also serves the important role of Ombudsperson for the US-EU Privacy Shield Framework, where they are responsible for reviewing U.S. intelligence activities and applicable restrictions affecting individuals’ privacy.

The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework serves as an important mechanism for facilitating transatlantic data flows in the digital advertising context. As of August 1, 2018, 89 IAB member companies participate in the Framework.

The IAB member companies participating in the Framework provide a variety of services within the digital advertising supply chain, from publishers that provide content and services directly to consumers, to technology companies that enable publishers and advertisers to measure their performance, monetize their services, and increase transparency through fraud and malware detection.
