IAB Discusses Privacy and Data Protection with European Parliament Members in Washington, DC


IAB Hosts Visiting Delegation of EU Officials 

On September 19, 2017, IAB hosted a delegation of Members of the European Parliament for a roundtable discussion on digital advertising and consumer protection in Europe. The delegation, comprised of seven Members of Parliament from the Internal Market & Consumer Protection Committee, visited Washington, DC as part of their ongoing work to strengthen cooperation between the U.S. and EU for the betterment of both economies. 

Participants discussed the evolving privacy framework in Europe, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the proposed ePrivacy Regulation. IAB member companies raised the challenges faced by the digital advertising industry in complying with recently proposed EU rules, and highlighted the importance of avoiding unintended consequences of prescriptive privacy laws.

The Internal Market & Consumer Protection Committee is scheduled to vote on the proposed ePrivacy Regulation on September 28th. IAB and IAB Europe will continue to represent the digital advertising industry in these critical discussions.
