2019 NewFronts West Takeaways

NewFronts West is a marketplace where creativity meets innovative new formats. This year, over 500 brands, agencies, and content creators attended the two-day marketplace and showcase in Hollywood, CA to forge content and media deals. The event also served as a forum for leaders to share insights and explore innovations in digital media and marketing. Around the theme of “Relationships Matter. Take a Stand,” the 2019 Newfronts West explored the many ways brands are “taking stands” in order to build better relationships with their media partners and a new generation of consumers.

  • Relationship building is transforming. Brands ARE taking real stands… and it is transforming customer relationships.
  • The “No Neutral Era” will give marketers the confidence to take new risks with their marketing strategy
  • To deepen relationships, brands and agencies should tie both creative and media back to their ultimate business objective – in the same way their KPIs and data are scrutinized
  • Music connects us to memories, and positive memories are a natural destination for brands to traverse

Relationship Building Is Transforming

Brands ARE taking real stands… and it is transforming customer relationships: Whether its Chipotle’s commitment to sustainability (not that controversial) or Barbie’s statements about diversity and inclusion (more controversial) or Walmart dropping ammunition from its stores (really controversial) there is something happening right now that has passed a threshold. Against the backdrop of Newfronts West, brands taking stands has reached a tipping point… and there is no turning back. The recent announcement, covered by The New York Times, that 145 CEOs have signed a letter demanding action made the 2019 Newfronts West more relevant than we could have possibly imagined… and media companies are finding a new and willing brand community with whom to partner. At the 2019 Newfronts West in Hollywood, Levi’s CMO, Jen Sey, quoted her CEO’s company philosophy on stage: “We must strive to choose the harder right over the easier wrong.”

We Are in a “No Neutral Era”

The “No Neutral Era” will give marketers the confidence to take new risks with their marketing strategy. Whether it’s partnering with an influencer and backing their cause in earnest or going all in with a mission-driven content company, brands are reacting to a new generation of consumers who want purpose and transparency over inauthenticity and silence. Purpose has become a business imperative for all players in the media ecosystem – marketers, media partners and consumers.

Natalia Perez was born in North Hollywood. This Mexican/Puerto Rican/Irish girl had a love for broadcasting since elementary school and since then have nurtured her talents, hard work, and attitude are the reasons why she’s come so far.

Natalia’s bubbly and energetic personality was a true match to Polytechnic High School’s cheerleading squad and an asset in her transition to college life at Cal State University at Northridge. She graduated from CSUN in 2006 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Cinema Television and Arts with an Emphasis in Radio Production.

Natalia started her radio career at 19-years-old when she started working for Clear Channel’s Top-40 station KIIS. In September 2009, she got her first on-air opportunity with MCM Entertainment co-hosting a nationally syndicated Top 40 Countdown show called “The Hot Hits Live from LA” that aired in 60 markets across Australia. In 2011 she began working with Hot 92.3 Los Angeles doing the Hollywood Reports with Rick Dees’ Morning show! In 2012 she continued working with Hot 92.3 on their new morning show hosted by Jimmy Reyes.

In April of 2014 Natalia began working with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a pre-game in stadium host and returned for the 2015 season.

In 2015 Big Boy brought his morning show to the newly flipped Real 92.3 one team member short. Natalia was the only suggestion made by top execs to fill the void and from day one it was apparent as to why. She joins Louie G and Dj VickOne as a key member to Big Boy’s Morning Show. She can also be heard on Big Boy’s syndicated show in over 20 markets. In 2018 Big Boy’s Neighborhood debuted on FUSE TV; a daily 90-minute show that airs, on-air bits, celebrity interviews and more.

Natalia has a distinct voice and infectious personality. She loves music, movies and cof-fee. She also enjoys spending time with her friends & family—and volunteering with her local YMCA. The Score

Rock Band

The Score
The Score
Rock Band

Rock Duo, The Score, channel fearless rock ferocity with fuzzy guitar riffs and adrenaline pumping beats, dressed in pop hooks and motivational declarations. The LA-based NYC transplants have become a mainstay on the Billboard Rock Songs and iTunes Alternative charts, rubbing shoulders with bands like Fall Out Boy and Imagine Dragons.

In October of 2017, the duo released their self-written, self-produced and self-mixed debut album ATLAS on Republic Records, debuting at #7 on the iTunes U.S. Alternative Albums chart. Its leading single “Legend” became the ubiquitous sports anthem of 2017 and the theme song of the NBA playoffs. That energy transformed the New York-born and Los Angeles-based duo into a genredefying phenomenon, incinerating the lines between rock, pop, indie, and electronic. Powered by anthems such as “Legend,” and “Unstoppable,” The Score reached hundreds of millions of cumulative streams within four years’ time over the course of three EPs — Unstoppable and Myths & Legends and Stay — and a 2017 full-length debut, ATLAS.

As they ignited venues across North America, Europe, UK and China, their music also began to become omnipresent in movies and television, with songs placed in Power
Rangers, Sing Street, Pitch Perfect 3 in addition to campaigns for Jeep, NBA, the Daytona 500 and most recently the NFL playoffs including the Super Bowl. Inspired by rap adjacent artists Post Malone and K. Flay they began writing in Los Angeles and collaborating with a bevy of high-profile artists, writers and producers including, JT Daly [K. Flay], Heavy [Dirty Heads, Saint Motel, Sleeping with Sirens], and Dave Bassett [Elle King, Vance Joy].

The Score’s new EP “Stay,” out now, is harder and darker than “Pressure.” Pressure highlighted how to improve yourself and face that inner conflict and the pressures that life throws at you; while Stay is about staying true to who you are as people from the outside world and from within. “Stay” explores the darker side of the human pursuit. The Stay EP features songs such as “Rush”, “In My Bones”, “Run Like A Rebel” and their new single, “Stay.”

The Score is set to go out for their third US headline tour in 2020.

The Score

The Score
The Score
